Tuesday, November 1st

General:

  1. Veteran's Donations November 1 - 15.  Please donated a nonperishable food item.
  2. Remembrance Day Assembly at 10:20 am on Thursday, November 10th.
  3. Photo Retakes on Monday, November 14th.
Math:
  1. Input/Output quiz next Monday.  Please start reviewing.
Science:
  1. We have officially been given 6 classes to research for the leaf project.  The rest needs to be completed at home.  Starting on Thursday, students been to start assembling their project.  Be sure to bring all materials necessary (e.g. leaves, usb, album).  Project is due Friday, November 18th.
Language Arts:
  1. Spelling Assignments due tomorrow (see Monday's post for words and examples).  Test on Friday.  Here is a link to the video we watched to help you study: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPjAiUbdl14
  2. After a month of reviewing and learning about parts of a narrative story, we have started the pre-writing stage for our own.  Students created their story map today and set goals as to what they would like to work on this time around.  Here are some students have set:

1   1. writing descriptively by using figurative language or juicier words
2.     story has flow between my rising actions, climax and falling actions
3.     ensuring that my spelling/grammar is as accurate as possible
4.     creative title
5.     a well-developed climax
6.     write my story using paragraphs
7.     the content should form a picture in the reader’s mind
8.     scenes don’t drag on too long
9.     show not tell; don't summarize, make a scene!
10. having a good balance between action, description, dialogue, thoughts/feelings, sound
11. create a good setting
12. character development - my character changes over time
13. not to use “and then…” all the time; use different transition words (e.g. instantly)
14. have a story beginning
15. creating an ending that ties everything together
16. use peer editing
17. develop a good plot
18. follow their story map closely

Social:
  1. Regions of Alberta projects due Friday.
