Regions of Alberta: Checklist and Slide ideas

Regions of Alberta Slideshow Checklist

1.    Pick a Region: Boreal Forest, Rocky Mountains, Canadian Shield, Foothills, Grasslands, Parkland
2.    Pick a partner or go alone (We suggest partners due to the amount of work and limited technology access/resources)

TASK: Create an informative slideshow for your classmates to make notes for a test.  The test will be based on the information presented!

Overview of the Region / Introduction
-Brief description, other regions it is connected too
-Why you chose this region, what makes it special?

Land
-Landforms, unique features in the region, I.E. Badlands, Valleys
-History of the region
-Soil types
-Rock types

Rivers/Lakes
-Main rivers and lakes and their importance to region, interesting facts

Plants / Trees
-Tree types, berries, plants, unique to the region, interesting facts
-What is the vegetation of the region?

Animals
-Unique to the region, fish, mammals, insects, birds
-Why do those animals live in that region?

Natural Resources
-How does your region make money?
-How does it use the land to make money?
-What products are produced in your region?
-What resources naturally occur in your area and what do we as society do with them?

Tourism
-Are there any elements of tourism in your region? What are they? Are they seasonal? Why?
-Most popular tourist destination
-Protected land?
-Provincial/National parks?


Mapping
-Your region on a map of Alberta
-Two types of maps at least of the region: Satellite, Road/Street, Topographical, Population location, Precipitation, Elevation, Other
-You could use several different kinds of maps during this project, I.E. Animal population / location

Environmental Concerns
-Are humans doing anything wrong to the environment in your region?
-Are their endangered species? Why are they endangered?

Climate
-Seasons, temperatures, precipitation of rain/snow
-Unique weather phenomena?  I.E. Chinooks
-Weather systems

Population
-Major cities in your region?
-Total human population?
-Why are there or aren’t there people living in your region?

Affected by other regions…
-Do other regions of Alberta affect yours? If so, how?

Other
-Any other cool, exciting, interesting facts about your region?
-Did anything throughout history exclusively happen in your region? I.E. The Buffalo Jump, Fossils
