Today we continued with our math cities - the paper mache was really fun!  (Don't work it is just flour and water, it will come off in the wash)

The LA newscasts seem to be coming along, we are hoping to be presenting this Thursday and Friday (we will see if we meet those goals).

In science we took some valuable notes on air and air pollution that will be key to comprehend for the test this Friday.

After gym we caught up on the 2017 Jump Rope for Heart and explored reasons why to fundraise, and how to maintain a healthy heart.

We hope everyone has a Marvel Comics Monday!

Friday, February 24th

Today students were utterly consumed by cardboard!

There are so many creative building designs that are coming out of these grade 6 students. Today was our final day for construction. Your child might be working on some last minute project details this weekend to bring back next week.

As for Monday.....please do not wear your favorite outfit! With our fabulous artist, the grade 6s will be paper macheing (sorry no spell check for French) all of their buildings. As well, a student self-reflection on their own piece of work and their group collaboration will be done.

As for other homework....
News broadcast plans and write-ups are due Monday
Social Frayer models were due Friday
Begin to review your Science notes for the Air, Aerodynamics and Flight test on Friday

Look forward to an upcoming blog post with all of the Science links used in class since January.

Have a great weekend everyone!

In LA we continued with our newscast project.  Students had to create a storyboard, transition plan, and assign who is doing what for each part of the newscast and commercial break(s).

In science we continued to review air and aerodynamics for the test next week.

We hope everyone has a trendy Thursday!

We hope everyone has a wacky Wednesday and an awesome rest of the week.  See you back on Tuesday!

7. Green sheets for LA and Math Test

Today in math we focused on making our charts and showing the different ways to represent data: fractions, percent, a chart, and graphs.  We will be continuing this project this week.

In social we started planning our artist in residency project.  The students are building a city with the theme of a specific shape, and must figure out how to work together.  They have to map the city using grid paper and each person much of a have role before the artist arrives next week.

In LA we filled out the green post-test papers that were sent home to be signed.  For the most part everyone did a great job.   Next we worked on grammar that is due tomorrow.

In the afternoon we worked on Valentine Day cards.

We hope everyone has a Marvel Comics Monday!

Science visual journal

Research Work

How you will be assessed:

1 – sections are incomplete without any information
2 – basic info, words or pictures are used as explanation
3 – good explanation using both words and pictures with thorough understanding
4 – excellent explanation – jot notes, pictures and labels, extended ideas beyond what is asked

This task will require you to draw and explain your understanding on a variety of ideas about air.

Basically you are doing a visual journal entry that looks something like this. Much like the work you already do. Just a bit better quality.

Using drawings and explanations.

1 Prove that air takes up space.

2 Prove that air can be compressed.

3 Prove that air exerts pressure.

4 Prove that air has weight.

5 Prove air flows and is fluid (you might have to look up what fluid means)

6 Prove how we use air in our daily lives and in what ways.

7 Prove / show some adaptations that birds and insects have to use air to fly. (This is actually in your notes).

8 Show what air is made up of.

9 Explain what happens with gravity and air pressure in the straw experiment

Properties of air

Composition of air

Air as a fluid

Straw and pressure and gravity

Math

We also took up the 'show what you know' and based on the assessment reflected and created goals for continued learning success. These green reflection sheets will be sent home for signing.

Science

Student's visual journal sheets are due Monday. There are about 9 concepts they were learning about. The information will be on a new blog post.

Spelling tests were done and Genius Hour was in effect. Ask your child what they learned about on their topic.

Field trip is Wednesday. If you are volunteering you are welcome to come to the school for 8:30 a.m. We will be getting organized and reviewing groups and expectations at that time and then leaving at 9:00 a.m.

Today in math we continued to learn about graphing the elements it contains.  We also took up the 'show what you know' practice review for tomorrow's test.  We are going to be graphing our time used each day in a 24hr period.

In social we explored the roles and responsibilities of each of the three levels of government.  Then we briefly talked about eco-cities, and smart-cities, the way of the future, to introduce our new math city project.

When the artist in residence program begins each group will be creating a 3D city themed after a math shape like pentagons.  Each city must have the required buildings / sections we learn about in social that actually make a city a city.

In LA we corrected the tests and started learning about the comma, semi-colon, and conjunctions.  The grammar practice is due Valentine's Day.

In the afternoon the classes were outstanding again with their reading  buddies.

Have a Thisty Thursday :)
